Lady of Avenel

Brigantine Lady of Avenel is perfect for those wanting a traditional tall ship sailing experience.

View sailing schedule

Lady of Avenel is a 102ft Brigantine square-rigger and was originally built in Russia in 1969 as a motor ship but was converted to a sailing ship in 1992. Her traditional tall ship rig means that she is sailed as she would have been 100 years ago!

Her generous size and layout both above and below decks make her an ideal adventure vessel to offer her guests beautiful sailing on Scottish adventures around the Hebrides in the summer and Cornwall in the Autumn. Aside from her more traditional sailing holidays, Lady of Avenel also offers a variety of trips and expeditions combining tall ship sailing with adventure activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, wild swimming or even paramotoring.

Lady of Avenel is a spacious tall ship with a large saloon at deck level with 360degree windows offering shelter and great views if the weather takes a turn and a fabulous social space for evening meals and entertainment. Shelves are filled with topical books, cupboards with endless board games and a cosy woodburner is positioned for optimum ambience and warmth when needed. Downstairs there is no sleeping in shared spaces. There are six generous size twin cabins with an abundance of storage so even travelling light won’t be a worry.

There is also plenty of space out on the open deck too. From the upper weather deck at the stern with great views along the ship and up the rigging to the foredeck where you can take a seat, feel the seaspray on your face and the wind running through your hair.

Stefan, the owner and skipper, actively encourages all guests to get as involved as they would like. Whether that’s pulling one of the 74 ropes or simply enjoying a G&T with a view, you certainly won’t be short of things to do. Chart reading and helm taking are also firm favourites with the offer of climbing the rigging always open to those who are feeling brave enough! Stefan and his crew are fulling trained so they welcome all aboard, from complete novices to avid sailors, they are happy to quite literally, show you the ropes.
