The guests’ stay together in the cargo hold whilst the crew shares the forepeak. During the summertime we often rig hammocks on deck to sleep under the stars. Waking up in the morning on anchor on the waterways is very peaceful with the calm riverscape reflecting the shape of the lush green foliage skirting the water. This glorious scenery inspires to go out for a morning row or walk along the unspoilt paths coasting the river shores and bordering onto fields of maze and wildflowers. After some fresh air, we gather around the table for a breakfast of freshly baked bread rolls, cheese, butter & jam, marmalade, cereals, Italian coffee and teas.
After breakfast we set off toward a new place to explore, taking into consideration weather and tide. We look at the chart and decide our new destination together, set sail and enjoy the journey as much as getting there and explore new sites. A picnic lunch is served on deck (weather permitting), made out of fresh sandwiches, hot soup, salads, fruit/cakes. Hot drinks are offered regularly during the day.
Supper time is usually below deck, our cuisine is mainly inspired by the Mediterranean diet and includes a variety of fresh roasted vegetables, nuts and spices, tortillas, focaccia and an array of pasta sauces, too many to describe and always complemented by a homemade pudding. We always cook with local produce from the Tamar Valley and support the local economy which grows the most delicious food thanks to its rich soil and sheltered climate.
We’ve kept things simple on Lynher to give guests a truly authentic barge sailing experience. Hoist the sails with us by hand, take the tiller and learn some simple river navigation with the crew. Whatever you decide, there is always a fully trained crew onboard to show you the ropes so if you just fancy sitting back and enjoying views, that’s fine too!
