Motor cruiser Fleur de Lys is perfect for cruising holidays in the Hebrides making light work of sheltered waters, with spacious accommodation full of nautical character. From the moment you step onboard, you’ll be greeted by local skipper Iain who knows the area well.
A Typical Day
After a comfortable night sleep in her generous cabins, a continental style breakfast will be served in the saloon with a mix of local produce, fruits, cereals, porridge and eggs or bacon on request. Iain will discuss the plans for the day after checking the ever changing forecast before starting the engines to set off for the next island discovery. Relax in the saloon as you journey or grab a pair of binoculars and watch from the bridge or on deck for whales, dolphins and local birdlife. Iain has a keen eye for wildlife on the horizon and you’ll often hear shouts from the bridge as he calls guests to share his spots!
Once the anchor has been set, you can hop aboard the tender ready to explore on land. Depending on the time-frame, either take a prepared pack lunch from the boat or pop back to eat lunch and explore some more – perhaps take a swim if you’re brave enough! Moor up for the night ready to enjoy a delicious meal cooked by the onboard chef. Spend the evening relaxing onboard with a selection of books and board games or you can even tune into the communal TV and skybox! After sharing your adventures of the day, sink into bed, being rocked gently by the waves.
All food and drinks are included in your ticket price along with wine, beer or a G&T at dinner. Unlimited soft drinks, water and snacks are available throughout the day and you’ll often find Stefan the chef baking a cake or two.
Our onboard chef Stefan is passionate about food and the fabulous local produce of the west coast of Scotland. Depending on the weather, your route might include a quick stop to liaise with the local fisherman for some fresh scallops, fish and prawns. The chef is free to be inspired to provide their own menu from the best ingredients available and the result is food that is exceptional, full of flavour, but healthy too.
Travelling in style
Fleur de Lys has recently been re-fitted to a high standard with carpeted interiors throughout, she provides ultimate comfort and creates a real home from home experience on the water. The double ensuite cabin is fitted with a full size pocket sprung memory foam mattress while the twin cabins also have full-size singles mattress’ too. An abundance of hot water is also available both morning and evening and with 240v sockets in all the cabins, there is certainly no back to basics on Fleur de Lys. Each guest is provided with a flannel, hand towel, bath towel and a robe so we recommend taking a pair of “house shoes” or slippers too!
The large saloon has both sofa bench seating and cushioned armchairs with a large table and seating for 8+guests. With 360 degree views of the surrounding landscape, despite travelling under motor, there is plenty to watch as you cruise along. A generous bridge is also open to the guests with Iain the skipper welcoming guests to watch the coast glide by. Once on anchor, there are steps up to the top deck providing the best views of the Hebrides with cushioned bench seating available – perfect for relaxing with a book, a pair or binoculars or a G&T after a day of wildlife watching and exploring ashore!
Our crew uphold the quality standards of our cruises and together they provide the warm, safe, stress-free and fun onboard atmosphere that our guests will never forget. The vast area of sea, coastline and islands that is the west coast of Scotland is simply exceptionally beautiful. The best way to get around is by boat and to experience the scenery is from the sea.
wonderful Hebridean Wildlife
In the clear waters of the West Coast of Scotland, we are so fortunate that many wonderful species live so freely. From Minke Whales, dolphins in the wake of the bow or birds of prey circulating the shores, there is always something to lookout for. Deer, ponies, seals and a plethora of seabirds are a regular spot with some anchorages home to mountain sheep and highland cows! Cormorants, herons and guillemots are just some of the varied birdlife you will encounter. As you join the boat in Mallaig, keep your eyes peeled in the harbour for sea Otters who have been known to scavenge for food from the fishing boats. Of course, we cannot guarantee wildlife will put in an appearance, which makes it extra special when it does!
A frequent stop for Fleur de Lys is the island of Canna that is part of the Small Isles. Canna is home to a large colony of Puffins which are best seen between April – July. Canna is also home to both Sea Eagles and the Golden Eagle so be sure to have your binoculars at the ready.
