Sail the beautifully restored Cornish Lugger Our Daddy for a week sailing holiday from Devon to Cornwall as she joins a flotilla of classic vessels for the bi-annual Sea, Salts and Sail Festival in the quaint fishing village of Mousehole in Cornwall.
Join Our Daddy from her current home town of Dartmouth on the South Devon. Set on the banks of the picturesque River Dart, Dartmouth is a beautifully picturesque harbour town, bustling with friendly locals, fresh produce markets and oozing in history and eclectic architecture. After heading out of the River Dart to the open sea, you will head west down the Devon coast sailing past Blackpool and on to Slapton Sands and Slapton Ley – the largest freshwater lake in the south-west (and bird spotters – bring your cameras!). You will probably stop the night at Fowey and then Falmouth with the chance to go ashore and explore these bustling Cornish harbour towns. Round the Lizard headland before sailing across Mounts Bay to your weekend destination of Mousehole.
This weekend sees the bi-annual Sea, Salts and Sail Festival in the traditional fishing village of Mousehole in Cornwall. Scores of historic vessels assemble in and around the picturesque harbour to celebrate Cornwall’s rich maritime heritage. This unique event recreates the sights, sounds and smells of a bygone era when Tom Bawcock and his famous Mousehole Cat would have fished these waters. Wooden hulls, spars, topsails and canvas are framed against the majestic beauty of Mounts Bay, transporting visitors back in time. Classic boats from the Cornish coast and as far as Brittany flock to this waterside village making for a spectacular maritime weekend re-creating the sights and smells of what was once so important to this vibrant fishing port. Sail with these beautiful vessel’s aboard Our Daddy for Saturday’s impressive Parade of Sail, a sight that stirs the heart of even the most hardened landlubber. On land sees Mousehole come alive with a weekend full of musical entertainment and merriment with food and market stalls lining the harbour walls. A full entertainment list can be found here. There’s poetry, storytelling, wood and stone-carving and young mariners can also make traditional craft models and then race them in the harbour water – an event that causes much fun, noise and laughter. A beautifully sourced photographic display also captures village life from the 1800s to the present day.
Once the festival has finished, on Sunday, sail back up the Cornish coast to reach your final destination of Fowey. If you’d like to stay and get off in Mousehole, please do let us know as variations of this trip are available.
Whether you’re a seasoned solo sailor or a family looking to do something a bit different with your weekend, Our Daddy can cater for all ages and abilities and is the perfect boat to learn the ropes or simply sit back and enjoy the view.
Tim and Steve have been sailing this coast for years and used to run their own sailing school so you couldn’t be in safer hands. They also pride themselves on the food served aboard, with a delicious Tapas style lunches, endless Tea or Coffee, cake and biscuits included in the price. They certainly won’t leave you going hungry!
As with all of Our Daddy’s sailing holidays, your ticket price includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks and Soft Drinks. There are six berths in the shared fore cabin with a shower and toilet located off the saloon area. All cabins have bedding and towels provided.
