Join Narwhal in the Outer Hebrides in the Scottish town of Stornoway, made famous by the shipping forecast and centre of Gaelic culture.
Following initial safety briefings, we will be heading out of port and set sail for the first time. The local waters provide the perfect opportunity to get used to the boat and get a first glimpse of the local wildlife. Depending on the weather conditions we may spend a couple of days exploring the Outer Hebrides giving plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the stunning scenery of the Hebridean landscape as hidden coves and white sand beaches slip past.
Once the conditions are right we will point our bows northwards and begin our crossing to the Faroe Islands. The crossing of around 250 miles will take us 2-3 days to complete. We will work in a watch system, taking it in turns to sail the boat through the day and night with the chance to experience the magic of sailing under a sky full of stars. During the crossing, you will have the chance to get as involved as you like in sailing as well as our ocean research projects such as microplastics sampling and wildlife surveying. We will feel like true explorers as we approach the Faroes and the islands begin to appear from the ocean as we are greeted by towering sea cliffs and flocks of soaring sea birds. The first islands in the chain are Suduroy and Sandur where we will choose a sheltered and secluded anchorage allowing you time to rest from our epic voyage as well as the chance to step ashore and spend time exploring, hiking, photographing and simply enjoying these magical islands. We will spend the rest of the expedition weaving our way towards Torshavn, passing bird cliffs, visiting small communities and witnessing towering waterfalls crashing into the ocean.
We will spend our final day enjoying the unique scenery of the Faroe Islands before heading into port in Torshavn. We will moor up for the night and enjoy our final evening on board with a nice dinner and time to swap stories, highlights and pictures from the expedition.
*The exact itinerary that we follow will be chosen each day by your skipper to make the best use of the weather conditions. Since we operate with just a small number of guests on board, we can tailor the areas that we explore based on your interests. All meals and hot/soft drinks and hire of a waterproof all in one are included in your ticket price.
