Join Narwhal in the bustling town of Oban for a week spring sailing exploring the islands of Coll, Tiree, and Lunga. Spring sailing in Scotland is one of the best times of year to visit when the landscape erupts in colour, lichen-covered woodlands become carpeted with bluebells and rhododendrons fill the view with vibrant colours.
Following initial safety briefings, we will be heading out of port and set sail for the first time. The sheltered waters around Oban and Mull provide the perfect opportunity to get used to the boat and are a great introduction to the local wildlife. There will be plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the stunning scenery of the Scottish landscape or undertake a first whale survey.
The main part of the expedition will see us enjoying the best sailing and scenery that the wonderful West coast of Scotland has to offer. Exactly where we go each day will be determined by the weather. Conditions permitting we will head along the Sound of Mull and out towards the islands of Coll, Tiree, and Lunga. These waters are some of the most prolific in Scotland for sightings of whales dolphins and basking sharks. Wherever we go we will enjoy a front-row view of the scenery and wildlife. Throughout you will have the chance to get as involved as you like in sailing as well as our ocean research projects such as microplastics sampling and wildlife surveying. Anchoring at the island of Lunga and heading ashore to spend time alone amongst the puffins or taking the dinghy inside the mystical Fingal’s cave are very special experiences to remember.
After a day’s good sailing will choose one of the many sheltered and secluded anchorages dotted along these coasts, allowing you to enjoy time ashore and simply relax and enjoy the easy pace of life far from the hectic modern world. Perhaps fish for your dinner, take a stroll ashore or even try your hand with the boat toys; kayaks or paddleboards. Explore the coast, seaweed foraging and toasting marshmallows over an evening beach fire.
We will spend our final day enjoying the Scottish scenery before heading into port in Oban. We will moor up for the night in Oban and enjoy our final evening on board with a nice dinner and time to swap stories, highlights and pictures from the expedition.
*The exact itinerary that we follow will be chosen each day by your skipper to make the best use of the weather conditions. Since we operate with just a small number of guests onboard, we can tailor the areas that we explore based on your interests. All meals and hot/soft drinks and hire of a waterproof all in one are included in your ticket price.
