Join the Pilgrim of Brixham as she sails to Plymouth on the Mayflower Commemorative Passage to mark its 400th anniversary.
Exactly 400 years ago, the Pilgrim’s sailed from Dartmouth to Plymouth as they headed westward for their epic transatlantic crossing to the New World. They had two ships in convoy – the Mayflower and the Speedwell. They sailed into Dartmouth in Devon, England on 23rd August 1620 for repairs and then set sail from Bayard’s Cove in Dartmouth for Plymouth to continue their inspirational journey.
Pilgrim of Brixham is part of the official Dartmouth Mayflower 400 celebrations and just as they did in 1620, she will start her journey by sailing out of the River Dart past Dartmouth and Kingswear Castles and into Start Bay and around Start Point.
We will arrive into Plymouth in time for guests to be there for the 400th Anniversary Festivities which will be on a massive scale. The aim of this voyage is to give guests the chance to experience and reflect on how those Pilgrim’s must have felt out at sea sailing to their destiny.
There will be ample opportunity to help the crew sail the vessel and see how these heavy traditional sailing vessels handled the weather, the tides and the sea.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and will certainly appeal to descendants of the Pilgrim’s, historians and those with affection or a fascination of the way traditional sailing vessels operated. The scenery will be spectacular and the marine wildlife will capture your attention. Above all though, this passage will give you an opportunity to put your head in the place where the Pilgrim’s were….and yes on a vessel named Pilgrim!
If arriving by car, the ticket price includes a transfer back to Dartmouth from Plymouth.
