Pin Mill Barge Race

Join Reminder in the town of Ipswich, Suffolk. A port town rich in maritime history based on the East Coast of England tucked up in the River Orwell. Its waterfront is lined with cafes, galleries and shops and the 19th-century Old Custom House. This part of England is full intricate waterways, tranquil creeks and pretty estuaries, perfect to explore under sail.

This voyage sees Reminder sailing with guests to take part in the annual Pin Mill Barge Race. This is one of the highlights of the sailing season for Barge owners and provides the sight of up to a dozen barges sailing together in a friendly but serious competition. The start is always very exciting with these large vessels being manoeuvred in close quarters trying to gain the best position.

Climb aboard Reminder on Friday evening for supper and meet your crew and fellow voyagers. After supper, guests can enjoy a walk along Ipswich’s attractive waterfront. Lockout of the dock begins early with the tide on Saturday morning as Reminder makers way for the start line at Pin Mill before racing the full stretch out of the River Orwell to the outer race mark. Reminder will have extra experienced crew aboard for the race on Saturday before enjoying an evening ashore with guests to collect all the cups we have won!

On Sunday, after breakfast Reminder will up anchor for a leisurely day where guests can get involved with hoisting the sails and taking the helm while exploring the Rivers Stour and Orwell.
