Discover the sub-tropical archipelago of the Isles of Scilly with a tall ship adventure on Blue Clipper.
Your tall ship sailing holiday aboard Blue Clipper will begin in the maritime port of Falmouth in Cornwall. The Isles of Scilly sit 28 miles off the Cornish coast so Falmouth makes the perfect joining location to begin the crossing over.
The 10-12 hour passage is well worth it but will be entirely weather dependant so the skipper will look for the best weather window. The reward for this hands-on crossing is a tranquil week of island-hopping in some of the clearest, warmest waters the UK has to offer. Discover secret places on sandy shores and experience the charming history of the UK’s most southerly archipelago.

YOUR SAILING AREA
Isles of Scilly
Out of the 55 islands, just 5 are inhabited and each has its own distinct character. From the hustle and bustle of the main island of St Mary’s to the resident seabird colonies on Samson, the Isles of Scilly offers something for all ages, abilities and aspirations. Whether you want to sample the local produce of each island or simply find peace in walking the numerous nature trails, exploring this archipelago by boat is the easiest and most fun way to get around.
The main focus of this sailing adventure is to reach the islands. The first day will likely see you sail down the Cornish coast to Newlyn so you are ready to begin your crossing the following day providing the winds are in favour. The wind and weather will determine your route so the skipper and crew will have a better idea of what to expect from the weather as you board.
(Please note, if the weather is not in favour then an alternative sailing plan will be decided to explore the wonders of the coast of Cornwall instead.)

Scilly Highlights
Think secluded coves, white sandy beaches, rocky sea cliffs and a wide variety of different landscapes – from wild and windswept, to sheltered and dotted with palm trees. The sunny and mild weather means you’ll be able to laze about on the beach, enjoy a quiet walk around one of the many uninhabited islands or take a swim in the clearest of waters before returning to the comfort of Maybe for a hearty home-cooked evening meal.
Tresco is home to a beautiful botanical garden, which has some exotic rare plants unable to grow anywhere else in the UK. The beaches of St Martins are some of the best in the world and Bryher is dotted with blue lagoons and rocky outcrops. St Agnes is the art capital of the Scillies with artists studio and artisan cafe’s dotted along the village roads. Dependent on the weather you’ll be able to visit where you like, as each of them are accessible easily by boat.Â

Wonderful Wildlife
The Isles of Scilly are a haven for wildlife, especially migratory seabirds who often nest here. You’ll most likely encounter seals somewhere along the way as they love the rocky shores, and you may be lucky enough to be joined by dolphins on the voyage to or from Penzance. Puffins are some of the Scillies’ most famous inhabitants, but they’re increasingly rare these days so keep those eyes peeled.Â

Blue Clipper
Guest berths: 12 Rig: Gaff Schooner
Built-in Sweden in 1991, tall ship Blue Clipper is an impressive three-masted gaff rig schooner. With a clipper bow, original teak deck and elegant stern, she mixes a traditional tall ship feel with a relatively modern build giving guests an authentic experience with all the mod cons.
She has spent many years sailing all over the world from the Caribbean to the Arctic and is a frequent participant in the European Tall Ship regattas. Originally owned by the Brandy company Hennessy and named ‘Spirit of Hennessey, she appeared in many TV programmes and commercials before being privately bought in the late 90’s.
On deck, she boasts ample space for her guests to become fully immersed in hands-on sailing; heaving the ropes, hoisting the sails, learning ropes skills and even taking the helm. She has 3 kayaks and 3 paddle-boards for guest use while on anchor so you can explore even further inshore.
A spacious saloon, wheelhouse and galley also sit at deck level while below decks has been well-considered with six ensuite cabins a family cabin that sleeps six. All cabins have a porthole for natural light and heating/air conditioning.
