Your Sailing Area
Oban to Inverness, Scotland
As you embark on your journey through the Caledonian Canal from Oban to Inverness, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the breathtaking scenery of the Scottish highlands. Picture mist-clad mountains meeting the tranquil waters of the lochs as you navigate this historic waterway. Take in the awe-inspiring engineering marvel of Neptune’s Staircase, a series of locks that raise vessels to a higher elevation.
Bessie Ellen will spend six days travelling through Great Glen Way and the famous Caledonian Canal. There will be some sailing and lots of lock working, and there will also be plenty of chances to explore ashore.
.
The Victorian-era canal route cuts through the glens from Corpach in the west to Inverness (and Loch Ness) in the east, providing a safe option to travel from coast to coast by avoiding the treacherous waters in the Pentland Firth and Cape Wrath. The journey offers a quiet and comfortable sail, from working the locks at Neptune’s Staircase to sailing down the long Lochs.
While not a seagoing voyage, a short journey like this is engaging for both sailors and nature enthusiasts, allowing you to cross 100km of Scottish highland beauty, walk the canal path, and enjoy fantastic food from the ship’s galley.
Wildlife sightings are guaranteed at this time of year, and it’s not uncommon to see at least 3 of the big 5, such as Red Deer, Otter, Seal, Golden Eagle, and the Red Squirrel.
