Join Oostershcelde to mark the end of the Douarnenez Maritime Festival and sail the Bay of Biscay to the coast of Northern Spain.
Douarnenez is a traditional fishermen’s harbour town situated spectacularly in the deep Bay of Biscay. The Bay of Biscay is very deep, in some places even 5000 meters and that gives the seawater a beautiful deep blue colour.
We will stay on the French coast and visit Belle-Îl where we can anchor at Le Palais and explore the island. After this island visit, we will begin our journey across the bay. It is about 250 nautical miles to reach the south side of the bay and normally takes us 48 hours before we arrive in Galicia on the north side of Spain. We will drop anchor in one of the deep bays that are typical for this area before we sail to La Coruña.
La Coruña is the starting point for the Tall Ships Races where we will arrive on Friday. The harbour will be full of participating vessels and it is well worth spending a day visiting the ships and crews before you leave Oosterschelde after breakfast on the last day.
Depending on wind and weather conditions the travel plan could be altered, however, we always try to sail as much as possible. It is not mandatory, but we invite everyone to participate in the watches and to help sail, steer and navigate the ship.
Your ticket price includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and hot drinks. Soft drinks and alcohol can be purchased from the onboard bar. Any food purchased ashore is at your own cost.
All towels and bedding are included in the price although Oosterschelde does ask guests to bring an extra swimming towel. At the end of your trip you can pay your bar tab in either in Euros or Sterling. We do not take card.
