Sail and explore the culture of the colourful Caribbean islands on Twister as she sails from Antigua to Tortola.
Join Twister in the Caribbean for spring sun sailing as she works her way north through the Lesser Antilles to the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean Sea. Spend 10 days sailing and exploring these beautiful turquoise waters and island hopping your way from Antigua to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.
Your holiday will begin on the island of Antigua, which is the mainland of the country of Antigua and Barbuda. Surrounded by turquoise waters, miles of coral reefs, stretches of sandy beaches and sheltered bays, this island is great for snorkelling, swimming and general relaxation. Quintessentially Caribbean in culture, you will find streets full of colourful timber houses, palms swaying in the trade wind breeze and friendly locals.
Sailing from Antigua you will probably visit islands such as Saint Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla and onto the British Virgin Islands. There is no fixed itinerary for your sailing holiday so there is no guarantee that you will reach all the islands listed as Twister will need to sail where the wind and weather take her. The Skipper will have a better idea of the holiday plan as you board Twister and will give a briefing on your first evening. But rest assured where ever you sail in this beautiful part of the world – you won’t be disappointed.
The beauty of being on a ship in these breathtaking islands is that we can take you to the unspoilt, authentic Caribbean, away from the busy resorts and beaches. Experience true Caribbean culture, from small fishing villages to lively, colourful carnivals. The crew will aim to give you time to explore the islands as you wish, finding harbours to berth at and secluded bays to anchor in. Feel the sand between your toes, soak up the wonderfully colourful Caribbean culture, snorkel with the fantastic marine life or simply kick back and relax on the beach.
Wildlife in the Caribbean is a real treat. Spot graceful Green and Loggerhead Sea Turtles gliding effortlessly through the water and Bottlenose Dolphins swimming with the wake of the bow. Whales also frequent the Caribbean sea, with the warm water providing the perfect breeding grounds at this time of year for the humpback whale. Birdlife in the Caribbean is an incredibly beautiful sight. Keep your binoculars at the ready to spot these colourful delights. With species only native to the Caribbean, these are once in a lifetime encounters! Pink Flamingoes are also a common bird across the Caribbean islands; these sociable creatures inhabit the blue lagoons, mudflats and lakes, living in colonies that can contain thousands of individuals.
Onboard schooner Twister, we combine luxury with the traditional to provide a unique sailing holiday experience, as either a novice sailor or an experienced hand. Like most of the Venturesail fleet, the aim is to include you in as much or as little as you wish to take part in; hoisting of the sails, helming the ship or simply being on wildlife watch and soaking up the Caribbean sunshine. We believe that in our fast-moving modern world, there is a great deal of satisfaction to work as part of a team aboard a ship from a bygone era; navigating the seas, discovering new islands and enjoying that winter sunshine. Twister’s crew are exactly who you want to be joining you whilst you holiday. Their accommodating nature and experience will instantly put you at ease and they will undoubtedly look after you and even if you have no experience, they will instil great confidence in literally – helping you to learn the ropes.
Twister has its very own chef, having previously worked in 5-star restaurants, he prides himself on freshly cooked and locally sourced produce. He will often be the first to jump ashore as soon as the sails are down in search of a local delicacy! Breakfast, lunch, dinner and hot drinks are all included in your ticket price and alcohol and soft drinks can be purchased onboard at a reduced rate.

Guest berths: 12 Rig: Schooner
Originally built with a wooden hull in 1902, Twister’s original purpose was to transport fish between fishing boats and back to the harbour. To ensure the fish remained fresh, Twister was built and rigged for speed.
During her working life, she was refitted with a steel hull and after several other owners, she was transformed in 1998 into a luxury passenger vessel. Renovated again in 2012, she was updated with all new safety features/equipment and all the modern comforts you could possibly want from a charter vessel.
With her graceful design and sailing lines, Twister is still a very fast, reliable ship and is truly comfortable under full sail. Her build and modern rigging system, allows her to perform excellently both on the Ijsselmeer, Baltic Sea and out on the Atlantic ocean, with most of her time spent in the North & Baltic Sea when she isn’t making the voyage down to the Canary Islands or around the Caribbean.
Come on board for an exhilarating sailing holiday aboard this classic two-masted schooner. Whether at the helm, on deck or in the cosy wheelhouse, the vessel is much loved by all her guests – Twister’s accommodation of 2 and 3 berth cabins makes her a perfect ship for families too.
