Your tall ship sailing adventure begins in Mallaig, the bustling and thriving port on the north-west coast of Scotland. The town is a fascinating place where visitors can soak up the atmosphere of a working fishing port but at the same time, its remote location makes it a great place to relax. Try the pleasant Mallaig Circuit walk which has great views over Mallaig harbour and across Loch Nevis to Knoydart. Getting to Mallaig is also one of the highlights of this voyage, with one of the most spectacular train journeys in the UK between Glasgow and Mallaig.
ST KILDA
With a suitable weather window, we aim to visit the island archipelago of St Kilda, lying 41 miles off the west coast of Benbecula. St Kilda is an extreme Atlantic outpost, and one of the few World Heritage sites in existence awarded ‘dual’ status for meeting both the natural and cultural criteria for the classification.
With its clear waters and craggy sea cliffs (including one that ranks as Europe’s highest), it is not surprising that St Kilda is home to the continent’s largest colony of seabirds including gannets and puffins. The islands also support a number of unique species of sheep, fieldmice and wrens, making it a fascinating natural island environment unmatched anywhere on earth.
Now owned by the National Trust and classified as a National Nature Reserve by Scottish National Heritage, St Kilda is managed in partnership with the Ministry of Defence who lease land here for an important radar tracking station.
As with all Blue Clipper’s sailing holidays, your ticket price includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks and Soft Drinks. There are six ensuite twin cabins and one six-berth cabin with a shared bathroom. All cabins have bedding and towels provided.
