Luxury Charter Sailing in Sardinia
The coastal city of Olbia sits in northeast Sardinia, and its balmy palm-lined waterfront is a beautiful marina to join the luxury catamaran Agave. Olbia airport is a short taxi ride away, so if you arrive early, there are plenty of cafes dotted through the beautiful medieval piazzas to explore. Agave can sleep eight guests (7 if you want to include a wellness guide!) in spacious double ensuite cabins. Unlike some bareboat charter options in the Mediterranean, Agave comes fully crewed with skipper Vincent and his partner and host, Vallery.
When taking a luxury catamaran on a private skippered charter, the choice of where to sail can be discussed with skipper Vincent and decided alongside his local knowledge, guests’ wishes, and, of course, the weather! One thing is certain: luxury paradise sailing is on the cards as you explore the stunning La Maddalena archipelago under sail.
Where the wind takes you…
Dine in the beautiful bay of Porto San Paolo and spend the night on anchor before an early start to explore the impressive neighbouring island of Tavolara. This touring limestone island is the perfect backdrop for your first meditation session on deck before exploring the island’s natural beauty.Â
Head north up the coast towards the famous Golfo Pevero. This traditional Sardinian harbour town offers unique dining experiences with some of the freshest seafood and traditional pasta dishes. Enjoy an early morning yoga session (optional!) on the beach before the tourists start to arrive. Then, we retreat to the tranquillity of the boat and set sail for the protected Maddalena archipelago.Â
La Maddalena archipelago
Known for its outstanding natural beauty and crystal clear waters, it’s often referred to as the Pearl of the Mediterranean. La Maddalena is a tranquil archipelago of outstanding natural beauty with turquoise lagoons, secret coves and deserted islands. Hundreds of quiet bays framed with limestone cliffs are home to some of Sardinia’s best beaches, and some of the best clear water swimming you’ll find in the Mediterranean.Â
Spend some time here soaking in the natural landscape as you explore ashore by foot and enjoy the boat’s SUP’s on the water. Take a walk through the rugged terrain to discover the diverse flora and fauna of Caprera island, reaching a breathtaking viewpoint across the bay. After a day of exploring the islands, Agave will visit a sweet marina called Porto Pozzo, known for its fresh fish and seafood restaurants, probably caught that morning! There are many picturesque bays to anchor across the archipelago, providing breathtaking backdrops for Agave’s wellness sailing.Â
The infamous Strait of Bonifacio
The voyage itinerary will largely depend on when Agave can sail across the Strait of Bonifacio. Skipper Vincent will know more about the wind forecast about a week before you join and what weather window will ensure the smoothest crossing. Visiting the harbour Bonifacio by boat has to be one of the highlights of this voyage, and it’s tipped to be one of the most impressive marina entrances in the world. The stunning white limestone cliffs against the deep turquoise sea are a breathtaking sight.
Explore the island’s rich history, culture and natural beauty. Bonifacio is known for its medieval citadel, old town and picturesque beaches. Be prepared for some serious Game of Thrones vibes!
Corsica
The island of Corsica is the fourth largest in the Mediterranean Sea, home to craggy peaks, dense forest and mountainous hiking trails. The south coast of the island makes for some fascinating sailing exploration with impressive rolling rock formations and idyllic smaller islands providing amazing snorkelling spots. Spend some time here exploring the coast, swimming and soaking in the natural landscape with some afternoon meditation sessions.
