Explore the beautiful archipelago of the Channel Islands under sail with more sunshine hours a year than anywhere else in the UK!
Spend five days sailing and exploring the Channel Islands with Pilot Cutter Polly Agatha as you begin your sailing holiday on the island of Guernsey.
Starting in Guernsey’s capital of St Peter’s Port is a lovely way to begin your sailing holiday. This sweet waterside town has been voted as one of Europes prettiest harbours and has even won the RHS Britain in Bloom award – not surprisingly the island is well known for its flower growing. Away from the capital and on the surrounding coasts, traditional villages dot the landscape as locals wander with a truly relaxed island vibe. Narrows lanes and deserted beaches boast an abundance of history from Castles to Iron Age Forts to carved standing stones.
As with all our sailing holidays, there is no set itinerary and your journey will be dictated by the weather and tides. The tides here are a fascinating event to watch with the Channel Islands seeing one of the largest tidal ranges in the world, with ranges up to 12m. Mark, the skipper used to live on Guernsey so knows these island and sailing grounds well and all the best bits to explore.
The Skipper aims to have a balance of great sailing with enough time for plenty of island exploration aiming to reach the islands of Herm, Sark and perhaps even Jersey or Alderney. Anchor in secluded bays with deserted beaches all to yourself and if the sunshine delivers the Channel Islands promise of being the sunniest part of the British Isles, perhaps even enjoy a BBQ on the beach!
Your journey will finish back where you started on Guerney with 800year old Castle Cornet a familiar sight on the horizon for approaching sailors and well worth a visit.
All meals and hot/soft drinks are included in your ticket price apart from one meal ashore per trip that is not included.

Guest berths: 6 Rig: Gaff Cutter
Polly Agatha was built in 2008 and her design was based on the classic design of the original “Peggy”, a Bristol Pilot Cutter. Pilot Cutters were designed to take their crews out into the wildest seas and keep them safe and as comfortable as possible. At the end of their era, it is not surprising that so many vessels became private yachts and their design is still being used to this day for sailing and charter yachts.
Externally Polly Agatha remains much in line with the design of the original Peggy with the traditional lines of a pilot cutter. Internally, however, Polly Agatha is fitted out with a beautiful modern interior and equipped with all the latest technology ensuring her guests’ optimum comfort.
She spends her sailing season exploring the beautiful Channel Islands, The Solent and sailing over the English Channel to the French coast for the maritime festivals of Paimpol and Brest and Douarnenez.
Currently based in Portland, Polly Agatha has been sailing these waters for the last decade and her owner and skipper Mark knows the area well. The white cliffs of the beautiful Jurassic coastline are the perfect backdrop for sailing Polly. Spending her life so far as a charter vessel, she always has her guests in mind and her accommodation is well considered. Mark and his crew will give you a totally relaxed holiday experience and encourage you to be actively involved, showing you the ropes and sharing their maritime knowledge.
