Join us in Cornwall to escape the crowds with a sailing on the water aboard Eda Frandsen.

There are plenty of opportunities to experience the full spectrum of Cornish scenery, from hidden creeks to beautiful sails across the bay from Falmouth.

Explore the enchanting waterways of the River Fal and the Helford. The Helford is a place of absolute tranquillity and is surely a little bit of heaven on earth.  The tolling of the Manacles bell is a reminder to the treacherous reef that claimed the lives of many sailors but passing to the east of the buoy on a bright spring day with sparkling seas as fresh as champagne, one easily dismisses the horrors that lie beneath.

Charming names of Cornish fishing villages, Coverack, Cadgwith and Porthallow allow a moment to step back in time to where once villages teemed with life, nets strung across streets drying. Lizard, Britain’s most southerly point, and once rounded by sail, a different world awaits, the wide mouth of Mounts Bay opens villages and beaches washed clean by the Atlantic. You can see why Newlyn became such a favourite with artists! Again, as with many Cornish places, romance is in the name: Kynance, Lamorna, Mousehole, all gems for sure and best to be visited from the perfect anchorage where each denied to the land crab.

Where you end up and are able to explore depends entirely on the wind and weather and although our crew will endeavour to show you the very best bits of the Cornish coast, we cannot guarantee you’ll have time to see it all!

Our experienced and adaptable chef is happy to cater to the needs of you and your party, whilst you learn the ropes or sit back and relax, exploring some of the most beautiful and remote locations in Cornwall. Your itinerary is entirely dependant on the weather and we can be flexible to suit your desired destinations!

Eda Frandsen

Guest berths: 8 Rig: Gaff Cutter

At 60ft in length, Eda Frandsen is the perfect size for exploring the many anchorages of the Western Isles and Cornwall. Small enough to sneak in close to the coastline, yet stable enough to withstand almost any weather. She is traditional in the truest sense of the world with an original rig, combining the simplicity and beauty of a bygone era with today’s modern comforts.

Eda Frandsen is a beautiful traditional gaff cutter, built at the Grena shipyard, Denmark in 1938. Having worked for much of her life as a fishing trawler in the harsh climates of the North Sea, her hull was lovingly restored on the remote peninsula of Knoydart, Scotland in the 1990’s.

Guests enjoy a unique blend of grace, character and seaworthiness and whether a beginner or seasoned seafarer, we offer voyages that are suitable for all ages and abilities.

Down below she can accommodate 8 guests in single berths, which are centred around her large saloon and dining area. There are two toilet/shower rooms, with separate access into the forward accommodation area. She has a small but highly functioning galley, from which many a delicious dish will be served throughout your stay.

Voyages on Eda Frandsen range from short breaks in Cornwall to trips up or down the Irish sea and six or nine-night adventures exploring Scotland and the Hebrides form our home port of Mallaig. So whether it is a brief escape or a complete sense of immersion you are after, there will certainly be something for all.

Travel insurance notes

As this is an active adventure holiday, we advise that everyone has the appropriate personal accident travel insurance whilst onboard in addition to standard travel insurance, which would cover you in the time between making your booking and departing for your adventure. These policies can sometimes be combined, so please check with your travel insurance provider.

• What COVID policies are in place for sailing with Eda Frandsen?

  Eda Frandsen is still running a Test & Sail Policy for the 2022 sailing season whether guests are vaccinated or not. Please refer to our COVID page for more information.

• Are all meals included in the price?

  Yes, all meals and food on board is included in the price, as well as all warm and soft drinks - i.e., everything except alcohol. There is however a cash bar on board.

• What language is spoken on board?

  English

• Do I need to tip the crew?

  Tips are not mandatory but are welcomed by the crew!

• What are the sleeping arrangements?

  There are 2x twin bunk curtained cabins and 4x single bunks in the shared forepeak.

• Do I need to bring bedding or towels?

  All your bedding (duvet and pillow) is provided but please bring your own towels (washing and/or swimming)

• How many bathrooms and/or showers does she have?

  2x toilets and 1 shower.

• Is there an age limit?

  Min age limit 12years. 12-18yr old must be accompanied by an adult on a 1:1 ratio

• Is there WIFI?

  No.

• Are Life Jackets provided?

  Yes.

• Are Waterproofs Provided?

  Yes, but please bring a jacket for when you go ashore.

PARKING:

You can leave your car at any of the Long Stay car parks with a weekly or overnight ticket. You can pay using the JustPark app on your phone which can be easier. Try Church Street TR11 3RQ or The Dell TR11 3HP.

BY RAIL:

There are direct trains with Great Western Railway to Truro from starting routes of Plymouth, Exeter St Davids, Cardiff Central and London Paddington. Once at Truro station you will need to change onto the Maritime line to Falmouth Town Station.

BY AIR:

The quickest way into the county during the spring/summer months, Newquay Airport requires taking either a taxi to Truro Train Station for the onward rail travel, or a taxi direct to Falmouth.

STAY IN FALMOUTH:

There are plenty of places to stay in Falmouth. Try The Chain Locker, Cutty Sark Inn or Seaview Inn.
