Our crew will welcome you onboard in Holtenau, on the western shore of the Kiel Fjord.

Embarkation will take place at 7 pm and after a welcome drink and dinner, you will have the opportunity to observe the lively coming and going at the locks of the Kiel Canal. From small sports yachts to ocean liners, vessels of all kinds and sizes can be seen passing by around the clock on the world’s busiest artificial waterway. On the walk to the small Holtenau lighthouse (pictured right), you will get a taste of the nostalgic harbour atmosphere – numerous old cargo ships and schooners are anchored on the quay at dusk.

After an introduction to sailing by the ship’s crew, you can soon join in the sailing yourself if you want to – no previous knowledge is needed! You can help actively with the sailing manoeuvres or just relax and watch. The setting and trimming of the sails during the days at sea will become an ever more fascinating spectacle from a long-gone seafaring era.

After breakfast, it will be time to “cast off!”. On the eastern shore of the fjord, we will see Laboe’s naval memorial; soon afterwards we will reach the open Baltic Sea at the Kiel lighthouse. After a day’s sailing, we will cross the invisible German-Danish maritime border and find ourselves in the sheltering harbour of Sønderborg, on the island of Als, which will probably be our mooring for the night.

This five-day trial trip is also ideal for beginners: We guarantee a lot of fresh sea air, pleasant onboard comfort and delicious food from our excellent galley, genuine traditional seafaring craft and typical Danish tranquillity when you go ashore in Copenhagen.

As this is an active adventure holiday, we advise that everyone has the appropriate personal accident travel insurance whilst onboard in addition to standard travel insurance which would cover you in the time between making your booking and departing for your adventure. These policies can sometimes be combined so please check with your travel insurance provider.
