Climb aboard Cherokee in the coastal city of Porto, located in northwest Portugal and well known for its stately bridges and tawny port production. Narrow cobbled streets tumble down the hillside and a wonderful mix of traditional and modern architecture blends with merchants’ houses, bell towers, extravagant baroque churches and stately beaux-arts buildings.
The time at sea is yours to make your own and guests are invited to become as involved as much as they like – take the helm and hoist the sails, sit back, relax and soak up the Portuguese sunshine and enjoy the views!
Anchor off sandy beaches with rolling sand dunes fringed by pine forests and teeming with birdlife such as sandpipers, gannets and osprey. Find secluded bays, exploring rocky inlets and crystal clear bathing lagoons before heading for a coastal walk along the limestone clifftops. There is no set itinerary for your sailing holiday as Cherokee will sail where the wind and tides permit but you will anchor at traditional Portuguese harbour towns and secluded bays as you work your way down the coast to reach Lisbon.
The capital of Portugal, Lisbon offers something for everyone and is well worth giving some time once leaving Cherokee bobbing in the harbour. It’s iconic seven hills surround the city as it sweeps down to the seafront, an array of soft white and red-roofed buildings offer postcard perfect views wherever you wander. From cobbled alleyways, ancient ruins, white-domed cathedrals and art museums, you won’t run out of things to do in this eccentric Portuguese city.
