This historic Looe lugger will sail from to the Cornish harbour of Charlestown, home of hit BBC drama, Poldark.Â
Join Our Daddy as she sails out with other magnificent classic boats from the maritime film festival in the Parade of Sail.
Continue back up the beautiful Cornish coast towards Dartmouth on Sunday perhaps anchoring near Fowey or Looe for lunch. There is no set itinerary for the return trip as Our Daddy will let the wind take her. But you will anchor or port for the nights with opportunities to go ashore.
There is plenty of history along this coastline as you sail past Slapton Sands, the site of the D Day Exercise Tiger – a fateful day for British Troops. In 1944 this was the scene of the infamous Exercise Tiger, involving 30,000 troops, a D Day rehearsal that unfortunately went badly wrong. A combination of an attack by German E-boats and miss timed friendly fire resulted in the loss of 946 men. Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve sits behind Slapton Sands and is the largest freshwater lake in the South West and home to both native and migrating birds.
Sailing to reach your final destination will see a ‘Day Mark’, built in 1864 on the eastern side of the estuary to help us identify the River Dart. Don’t forget to watch for harbour porpoise, dolphins, common grey seal as well as cormorants, guillemots and gannets as you journey along the coast!
All food and soft drinks are included in your ticket price.
