Leaving from Our Daddy’s home port of Dartmouth, this historic Looe lugger will sail down to the Cornish harbour of Charlestown to take part in the harbours first Classic Sail Festival.
Our Daddy’s hometown of Dartmouth is a beautifully picturesque harbour town, so make sure you allow a little time before boarding to wander through the narrow streets and discover what it’s got to offer. Once you’ve found your sea legs, help the crew set the sails for the equally picturesque harbour town of Charlestown, now famous for being the home of hit BBC drama, POLDARK!
Join Our Daddy for Charlestown’s Classic Sail Festival Weekend and get your cameras at the ready, sail into the harbour on Friday ready to join the party in the evening – all included in your ticket price! Spend Saturday exploring this historic harbour town and its festivities, enjoying great local food and live music throughout the weekend. Get a pass to access and board all the other classic boats moored along the harbour before joining the fabulous Parade of Sail on Sunday morning, full of classic ships and oozing in maritime history.
Continue back up the beautiful Cornish coast towards Dartmouth on Sunday perhaps anchoring near Fowey or Looe for lunch. There is no set itinerary for the return trip as Our Daddy will let the wind take her. But you will anchor or port for the nights with opportunities to go ashore.
There is plenty of history along this coastline as you sail past Slapton Sands, the site of the D Day Exercise Tiger – a fateful day for British Troops. In 1944 this was the scene of the infamous Exercise Tiger, involving 30,000 troops, a D Day rehearsal that unfortunately went badly wrong. A combination of an attack by German E-boats and miss timed friendly fire resulted in the loss of 946 men. Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve sits behind Slapton Sands and is the largest freshwater lake in the South West and home to both native and migrating birds.
Sailing to reach your final destination will see a ‘Day Mark’, built in 1864 on the eastern side of the estuary to help us identify the River Dart. Don’t forget to watch for harbour porpoise, dolphins, common grey seal as well as cormorants, guillemots and gannets as you journey along the coast!
All food and soft drinks are included in your ticket price, except for one meal ashore on Saturday evening.
There are currently no voyages scheduled. Please get in touch with the VentureSail team to find out what’s available, or if other upcoming voyages might be suitable.
