Experience some of the best sailing grounds in Europe and sail with tall ship Trinovante as she explores the Norwegian Coast. Sailing from Stavanger to Sandefjord, Trinovante will be working her way through narrow gaps in intricate waterways on Norway’s most southern tip.
Joining Trinovante in the waterside city of Stavanger is the perfect introduction to voyaging through Norway. Famed for its many natural attractions and old wooden houses, the Stavanger region is on the radar of nearly every visitor to Norway with scenic landmarks such as the Lysefjord and the white sands of Sola beach being top visitor destinations. Though Stavanger is an ever-evolving city, its proud history shines through. The old part of the city has Europe’s best-preserved wooden house settlement with more than 170 white wooden houses and is well worth a visit.
The voyage will see you sailing by and exploring thousands of islands, skerries and wooden foreshores with this Southern part of Norway packed with greenery. Discovering white sandy beaches and traditional waterside villages will really make you see the strong connections the Norwegians have to their coasts. Nearly everyone has a boat for either fishing or transport but each one ultimately for pleasure.
As you continue along this stretch of coast, in between the sandy beaches lie a series of sheltered coves and beautifully smooth, sloping rocks. Your final stop of Sandefjord is a modern yet charming seaside town with large forests and numerous sandy beaches. The Vikings lived in the area about 1,000 years ago, and in Sandefjord, their presence is clearly seen in the artefacts and monuments they left behind. This is where the famous Gokstad ship was found, and the area has several other sites and historical landmarks from the Viking era. Sandefjord is also home to Europe’s only museum dedicated to whaling and its history and is well worth a visit.
