Sail the English Channel with Polly from her home port of Portland on the Jurassic Coast to Guernsey in the Channel Islands.

Sail with Pilot Cutter Polly Agatha across the English Channel as she spends three days sailing from Portland on the Jurassic Coast to Guernsey in the Channel Islands.

As you leave Portland, look out for Portland Bill Lighthouse on the horizon. This marks the beginning of your journey and as you sail away, get the binoculars out to soak up the dramatic white cliff lines of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast.

Leaving Portland behind, you will sail across the English Channel and Polly is the perfect boat to make such a crossing. Originally made to cross the Bristol Channel to transport Pilots to and fro the land, Pilot Cutters are designed to take their crews out into the wildest seas and keep them safe and as comfortable as possible. Polly will obviously aim to cross the Channel in the best conditions possible but it’s good to know you’re in safe hands!

Stop off on the island of Alderney, the third-largest Channel island known for its rich and varied wildlife and home to the largest population of Glanville Fritillary butterflies in the British Isles, the rare blonde hedgehog, huge colonies of northern gannets and puffins nesting offshore. Colour washed houses, cobbled streets and welcoming restaurants make up the sweet main town of St Anne’s, known for its good hospitality.

Finish in Guernsey’s capital of St Peter’s Port. A lovely way to end your sailing holiday. This sweet waterside town has been voted as one of Europes prettiest harbours and has even won the RHS Britain in Bloom award – not surprisingly the island is well known for its flower growing. Why not take a few days to explore Guernsey? With over 27 sandy beaches, gentle rolling hills and an abundance of history, this island has lots to offer! Read more about the Channel Islands here.

All meals and hot/soft drinks are included in your ticket price.

Polly Agatha

Guest berths: 6 Rig: Gaff Cutter

Polly Agatha was built in 2008 and her design was based on the classic design of the original “Peggy”, a Bristol Pilot Cutter. Pilot Cutters were designed to take their crews out into the wildest seas and keep them safe and as comfortable as possible. At the end of their era, it is not surprising that so many vessels became private yachts and their design is still being used to this day for sailing and charter yachts.

Externally Polly Agatha remains much in line with the design of the original Peggy with the traditional lines of a pilot cutter. Internally, however, Polly Agatha is fitted out with a beautiful modern interior and equipped with all the latest technology ensuring her guests’ optimum comfort.

She spends her sailing season exploring the beautiful Channel Islands, The Solent and sailing over the English Channel to the French coast for the maritime festivals of Paimpol and Brest and Douarnenez.

Currently based in Portland, Polly Agatha has been sailing these waters for the last decade and her owner and skipper Mark knows the area well. The white cliffs of the beautiful Jurassic coastline are the perfect backdrop for sailing Polly. Spending her life so far as a charter vessel, she always has her guests in mind and her accommodation is well considered. Mark and his crew will give you a totally relaxed holiday experience and encourage you to be actively involved, showing you the ropes and sharing their maritime knowledge.
