Aboard your home, Bessie Ellen you will spend a week wandering under sail, seeking out the best wildlife locations to achieve the best chance of spotting whales, dolphins, eagles and hopefully otter. You will explore tiny uninhabited islands and forage for food on the rocky shores.
Along with the exceptional scenery, I will show you the ropes and encourage you to enjoy sailing as it should be – no pressure, just sheer enjoyment of working a wind driven ship.
And of course the entertainment is as you make it – we have a fantastic chef who conjures up dishes using local ingredients and after dinner you can play one of the ships instruments ( guitar or tambourine!), sing songs or play a hand of cards. A really simple way to achieve a 100% relaxing holiday.
From my past experience, May to September are the definitive months for the most sightings, this includes Minke and Orca as well as basking sharks, but all depend on the weather at the time.
Sea birds have come in to the coasts to breed and the most popular is the Puffin – we will endeavour to get you ashore to walk among them as they collect sand eels and prepare for nesting in their burrows.
Rum and Mull are certainly eagle country and out at sea there should be both Atlantic common and bottlenose dolphin.
