Begin your adventure sailing holiday in the Scottish harbour town of Oban to set the sails and explore the best offerings of Scotlands whisky distilleries.

Scotland is the largest exporter of whisky in the world so its fair to say whisky is important to the Scots! Luckily many of the distilleries are in coastal locations and we are able to visit them under sail with Stravaigin. Even if you do not drink whisky, a visit to a distillery is informative and many have cosy cafes and gift shops too.

The following coastal distilleries have been included in past itineraries, Springbank, Glen Scotia, Kilkerran, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Jura, Oban, Tobermory, Ardnamurchan, Talisker and Isle of Harris. New distilleries are still being opened, so the list is never finished!

The new market for Scottish botanical gin and even rum, provide an alternative interest and with many using coastal seaweeds and foraged plants to infuse their spirits, distillers and staff are delighted to welcome you and share their stories.

Visits can be arranged during some of the scheduled trips or our whisky cruise so you could tick off a few in one trip.

Wherever you end up with Stravaigin, it will certainly be an adventure to remember and with her owner and skipper born and bred in Scotland, you’re in the best hands to discover all the secret spots. John knows the best distilleries and as you board Stravaigin, he will be able to give you a rough idea of the itinerary and what can be achieved over the week.

This voyage will, as always, be dictated in part by the weather, but when we anchor you will be able to explore ashore, follow trails and discover places off the beaten track. Stravaigin requires no previous sailing experience so you can sit back and enjoy the views although the crew are more than happy to show you the ropes and even give you the helm if you’d like!

*All meals are included in the price (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Hot Drinks). An evening Single Malt dram of your choice from our well-stocked bar. There is an honesty bar for other times.

As this is an active adventure holiday, we advise that everyone has the appropriate personal accident travel insurance whilst onboard in addition to standard travel insurance which would cover you in the time between making your booking and departing for your adventure.
