YOUR SAILING AREA
St Lucia to Antigua
The volcanic spires make the island of St Lucia a spectacular landmark in the Windward Islands and provide a breathtaking starting point for your Caribbean sailing holiday. The villages dot the coastline are predominantly traditional Caribbean fishing towns, lined with volcanic beaches and great snorkelling and diving opportunities. The island’s interior is home to dense rainforest with varying levels of hiking trails if you fancy walking to gain a dramatic vantage point of the bay before you join Blue Clipper.
Your first stop will be the rugged and volcanic Caribbean island of Martinique. It is an overseas region of France, with a culture that reflects a delightful blend of French and West Indian influence. The northern part of the island is mountainous and is home to Mont Pelée, an active volcano surrounded by dense rainforest. The beaches in the north have silvery grey sand due to historic volcanic ash. In contrast, the southern part of the island features iconic white sands and is home to the largest town, Fort-de-France. This town has steep hills, quaint narrow streets, and the beautiful gardens of La Savane, which are bordered by shops and cafes. In 1502, Christopher Columbus landed on the island after a 21-day trade wind passage and named it Martinica.
From Martinique, sail north and island hop to Dominica and Guadeloupe before finishing in Antigua. Guadeloupe is a French overseas region with a butterfly-shaped main island featuring the Salée River, hilly terrain, long beaches, and sugarcane fields. The Parc National de la Guadeloupe includes Carbet Falls and the La Grande Soufrière volcano. Dominica is a mountainous island covered in rainforest reserves teeming with wildlife, including the Boiling Lake, hot springs, and the Trafalgar Falls. Roseau, the capital of Dominica, is known for its colourful timber houses and beautiful botanical gardens.
The beauty of being on a ship in these breathtaking islands is that we can take you to the unspoilt, authentic Caribbean, away from the busy resorts and beaches. Experience true Caribbean culture, from small fishing villages to lively, colourful carnivals. The crew will aim to give you time to explore the islands as you wish, finding harbours to berth at and secluded bays to anchor in. Feel the sand between your toes, soak up the wonderfully colourful Caribbean culture, snorkel with the fantastic marine life or simply kick back and relax on the beach. Dive from the boat and swim in the turquoise blue waters, and make use of Blue Clippers kayaks and SUP’s.
The effects of the recent Hurricane Beryl have been devastating to many Caribbean islands, significantly impacting the environment, landscape, and, most importantly, the people and communities. Now more than ever, we must support these beautiful islands that so many of us enjoy yearly. Our boats will be returning to the Caribbean this coming winter, with their itineraries carefully planned and amended to avoid putting extra pressure on the infrastructure of the areas worst affected and to support the vital tourism industry of the islands. Our island agents have informed us that they will be ready to welcome visitors back at the start of their season.

Blue Clipper
Guest berths: 12 Rig: Gaff Schooner
Built-in Sweden in 1991, tall ship Blue Clipper is an impressive three-masted gaff rig schooner. With a clipper bow, original teak deck and elegant stern, she mixes a traditional tall ship feel with a relatively modern build giving guests an authentic experience with all the mod cons.
She has spent many years sailing all over the world and currently spends her summers sailing Scotland and the Hebrides, her autumn months heading south to Spain and Portugal, then setting sail across the Atlantic for some winter sun in the Caribbean. Originally owned by the Brandy company Hennessy and named ‘Spirit of Hennessey, she appeared in many TV programmes and commercials before being privately bought in the late 90’s.
On deck, she boasts ample space for her guests to become fully immersed in hands-on sailing, heaving the ropes, hoisting the sails, learning ropes skills, and even taking the helm. She has 3 kayaks and 3 paddle boards for guest use while on anchor so you can explore even further inshore.
A spacious saloon, wheelhouse and galley also sit at deck level, while below decks have been well-considered with six spacious ensuite cabins. All cabins have full-size bunks, a small desk, a porthole for natural light and heating/air conditioning.
