Set sail from Portugal on board classic tall ship, Twister, down the west coast of Europe. Depending on the wind you may call in at Lisbon or perhaps Madeira.
Madeira is always a favourite, with her remote misty mountains and vibrant city culture, it’s a place to hire a car for the day and tour at your own pace – if you do want to hire a car then don’t forget your driving license!
From Madeira, as the weather warms, Twister will either head south-eastwards towards Graciosa off Lanzarote. This wonderful island, now a national park is a gem in the Canary chain and well worth the visit. If the more Southerly course is favoured, the first port of call will be La Palma. The fairest of the islands, this is many people’s favourite. The steep slopes are furnished with Banana plantations and vines as you climb steeper and steeper to the very top of the isle. Here the mountain opens out into the famous caldera with swirling mists and snow lined tips, the experience is to see the vertical drop down to the villages at sea level. Well worth a day to explore before heading to Tenerife.
