Swedish sailing holiday exploring the Trollhätte Canal and the Vänern Lake.

Join Eye of the Wind in the Swedish city of Gothenburg situated off the Göta älv river on the country’s west coast. An important seaport, it’s known for its Dutch-style canals and leafy boulevards lined with cafes and shops.

From Gothenburg, you will sail through the idyllic Trollhätte Canal to reach the Vänern Lake, the largest Lake in Europe! After receiving safety instructions and an introduction to sailing from the ship’s crew, you will soon be able to take part in sailing yourself. Hands-on assistance on deck is always voluntary, so if you want, you can just relax and enjoy watching the sailing manoeuvers and the traditional seamanship in action every day. If you like, you can make yourself comfortable below deck in the comfortable lounge, browse through a good book from the large onboard library, or see which DVDs are available.

The decision on which port or anchorage to call on in the evening is made by the captain on the same day and depends on the wind and weather conditions – whenever possible, your wishes will be taken into account. This ensures that your sailing trip is a pleasant mixture of adventure, relaxation, active participation and pure enjoyment. Look forward to some wonderful days of sailing on the summery and brisk Baltic Sea. Weather permitting, we will have the opportunity to sail out of the harbour in the evening and sail at night – another highlight of every cruise.

Gothenburg is where our Scandinavian sailing adventure ends and you will bid farewell to our crew and your fellow sailors. Relaxing days with windswept sails on the ship’s deck now lie behind you.

With incredible amounts of character, Eye of the Wind has all the modern amenities and an authentic interior, with a teak maritime décor. Oozing with maritime history, the opportunity to sail on Eye of the Wind is one in a lifetime. This beautiful ship is as eye-catching as they get and she has even featured in several movies, including White Squall, due to her breath-taking appearance as a 1911 brig.

This windjammer offers luxurious holidays on board, cruising some of the most stunning locations in the world.

Although the ship has a large, capable engine, traditional sailing is naturally the preferred mode of travel so there is plenty to get stuck into on deck. Join the crew at any number of the large maritime festivals they appear at, cruise the European coast, or relish some winter sun and climb aboard for their voyages in the Caribbean – including a transatlantic crossing back from the Caribbean to Portugal.

Thanks to the 6 luxurious cabins, all with ensuite bathrooms, Eye of the Wind can sleep a total of 16 guests ensuring ocean passages can be travelled in true comfort.
