Sail the North Coast of Spain

The north coast of Spain is a far cry from the tourist hub of the South, and we really believe there is no better way to soak up the authenticity and atmosphere of this coastline than from a boat. This wild coastline is a wonderful mix of rugged cliffs, deserted estuaries and traditional fishing villages, with the port of Vigo still being home to Europe’s largest fishing fleet.

Galicia is a unique and beautiful region framed by mountains, dotted with traditional ancient villages and oozing in Spanish history. Celtic carved-stone crosses and stone, and fort-villages tell stories of the Galicians’ Celtic ancestors old. There is just so much to see from a sailing holiday in Spain.

Sail to La Coruña

A historic fishing and trading port, La Coruña is located on the North coast. The historic part of town is home to an interesting Romanesque road network with squares and medieval churches, as well as the Hercules Tower, the oldest lighthouse in the world. The Museum of Fine Arts, with works by Goya and others on display, is also worth a visit.

Sailing the Spanish Coast

The air is full of the scent of eucalyptus drifting down from the mountains, and this wild coast is frayed by the majestic collection of coastal inlets named Rías Baixas. The Rías Baixas are a series of four estuaries turning into magnificent Fjords located on the southwestern coast of Galicia. Sailing through and exploring these Fjords by boat is a truly breathtaking experience, and the vastness of the cliff line dropping swiftly down to long stretches of deserted sandy beaches and hidden coves is a fascinating sight.

Nestled along the coastline and in the estuaries are clusters of islands that provide our boats with the best “off-the-beaten-track” anchorages for guests to explore. The beautiful archipelago of Iles Cies is situated in the mouth of the River Vigo and is a designated National Park home to picturesque sheltered coves, glistening clear waters and stretches of deserted sandy white beaches. Also teeming with birdlife, these islands are great for wildlife spotting!

Explore Cadiz

A cultural melting pot, the ancient port of Cadiz boasts a rich maritime history as it is home to the Spanish Navy, serving as the main port for exploration and trade during the 16th and 17th Centuries. There is much history to uncover here, from the 100 watchtowers once used for spotting ships to the solid city walls which date back to the 18th Century. The entire port is surrounded by water, and it’s worth ascending the hilly headlands to enjoy the fantastic sweeping views out to sea, along the picturesque coast, as far as the eye can see.

Sailing the Balearic Islands

Located East of the mainland of Spain, the Balearic Islands are a popular holiday destination, with a warm and sunny Mediterranean climate and an abundance of picturesque anchorages. Visit Mallorca

The largest of the Balearic islands, Mallorca is well known for its crystal clear waters, limestone cliffs and gorgeous sandy beaches, making it the perfect location for a luxury sailing holiday. Set the sails from the historic harbour city of Palma after a short flight from the UK. With plenty of anchorages in picturesque bays, enjoy these crystal clear waters with some snorkelling or swimming after a day of coastal sailing.

Majorca was one of the central locations on the Mediterranean trading route, meaning there’s a wealth of history and culture to be explored ashore.  From the prehistoric settlements ‘talaoits’, to the Roman cobbled streets, to the unmissable Gothic cathedral found in Palma, you’ll find yourself stepping back in time across the centuries. The melting pot of cultures on the island has resulted in a unique culture and lifestyle, drawing from Arabic, North African, Catalan and Spanish history across food, architecture and culture. Wander through traditional stone villages and citrus plantations before spending a starlit evening enjoying the local delicacies.

Not only does this coastline offer fabulous scenery and fascinating Spanish history, but it is also famous for its seafood and fresh produce.
