Sea Dragon is a modern expedition yacht with a proven ocean-racing design. Built to MCA Category 0 (All Oceans), she is designed for adventurous offshore sailing, combining performance, safety, and long-range capability.
Her voyages range from shorter taster sails to week-long passages and extended offshore expeditions. Each voyage is a working passage, perfect for adventurers, curious beginners, and aspiring sailors seeking a hands-on experience on a modern yacht. Sea Dragon welcomes solo travellers and those eager to build confidence, learn practical skills, and be part of a close-knit crew.
Built for endurance and reliability, Sea Dragon carries a powerful cutter rig with a full offshore sail rig, including storm sails and an asymmetric spinnaker. Her systems are designed for self-sufficiency, combining a Perkins diesel engine, generator, and renewable energy from wind and solar.
Below deck, she offers practical and comfortable accommodation for expedition life, with 15 single berths, a spacious saloon, two heads with showers, and a large, well-equipped galley. Heating and air-conditioning ensure comfort across a wide range of climates.
On deck, she is equipped with modern navigation and communication systems, including Furuno electronics and satellite connectivity. She also has stand-up paddle boards and snorkelling gear for guests to use.
Sailing aboard Sea Dragon means becoming part of a working crew. You’ll stand watch, take the helm, assist with navigation, handle sails, and contribute to daily routines such as cooking and maintaining the vessel.
Meals are a shared responsibility, focusing on local produce and fresh ingredients whenever possible. Most dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice.
GETTING INVOLVED
Life aboard Sea Dragon is a true offshore sailing adventure. As a working expedition vessel, everyone on board becomes part of the crew, encouraged to get involved in all aspects of life at sea. You’ll take part in helming, navigation, sail handling, keeping lookout, and the shared routines of cooking and maintaining the boat.
No prior experience is required, just a willingness to get involved and a love for adventure. Under the guidance of a professional skipper and crew, you’ll build practical skills and confidence. Days are shaped by a watch system that balances time on duty with time to rest, reflect, or simply take in the vastness of the ocean. When at anchor or in port, the focus shifts to exploration, with opportunities to swim, snorkel, hike, or step ashore and connect with the places we visit.
A TYPICAL DAY
No two days are the same on an expedition, but a steady rhythm quickly forms. At sea, your day is shaped by the watch system with periods of helming, trimming sails, or keeping lookout, balanced with time to rest, read, or connect with your fellow crew.
At anchor or in port, the pace softens. Days are guided by location and conditions, with time set aside for exploration. Whether that’s snorkelling reefs, hiking coastal trails, or simply enjoying life ashore between shared meals.
SLEEPING AND RELAXATION
Rest is essential to life at sea, and Sea Dragon offers a comfortable, practical space to recharge. Each guest has their own bunk within a shared cabin, along with a personal storage area. The accommodation is simple but thoughtfully designed for offshore living.
Off-watch time is yours to enjoy. You might stretch out with a book, share stories in the saloon, or sit quietly on deck underneath a star-lit sky. The experience invites you to slow down and disconnect from daily routines, replacing them with the ocean’s natural rhythm.
EATING ABOARD
Meals are cooked on board with an emphasis on fresh, wholesome ingredients and flavours inspired by the regions we sail through. When conditions allow, locally sourced produce and the occasional fresh catch bring a sense of place to the table.
Lunch and dinner are a time to come together, reflect on the day, and enjoy good food in good company. Breakfast is more flexible, with freshly ground coffee or loose-leaf tea easing you into the morning. Everyone plays a part in galley life, from meal preparation to washing up. Dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice.
On every voyage, Sea Dragon is run by a dedicated professional crew of four. Their expertise ensures both the safety of the vessel and the quality of your experience on board.
Leading the team is an experienced Skipper, a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster Ocean, supported by a First Mate holding a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore qualification. They are joined by one or two skilled Deckhands, all trained in Sea Survival and First Aid at Sea, forming a capable and cohesive crew.
Beyond their technical credentials, what sets the team apart is their passion for sailing and teaching. All Skippers are RYA Instructors or Examiners, bringing a depth of knowledge and a genuine enthusiasm for sharing it. Whether you’re completely new to sailing or looking to build on existing experience, the crew are there to guide, support, and encourage—creating an environment where learning is hands-on, engaging, and deeply rewarding.
Sea Dragon is a 72ft (22m) steel-hulled expedition yacht built in the UK in 2000, with a formidable 90,000lb displacement. Originally launched as CB 37, she is one of just eleven second-generation yachts purpose-built for the renowned Global Challenge Race.
Designed to take amateur crews safely around the world against prevailing winds on a 32,000km west-about circumnavigation, Sea Dragon is no ordinary sailing vessel. She has completed this demanding route twice, proving her strength, resilience, and capability in some of the harshest ocean conditions on the planet.
Today, she carries that same spirit of adventure into her role as a global expedition yacht. Her robust construction, purposeful design, and proven history make her exceptionally dependable offshore, equally at home on remote passages as she is exploring far-flung coastlines.
Sea Dragon is the perfect boat for challenge, discovery, and a genuine offshore sailing experience.
