Departing Nuuk, Sea Dragon heads north along one of the most spectacular coastlines on earth. Greenland’s west coast is a world of contrasts with jagged peaks, glassy fjords and vast icebergs drifting silently south from the glaciers above. As the miles pass and the latitude climbs, the sense of remoteness deepens. Crossing the Arctic Circle under sail is a milestone that few sailors ever reach, and the waters beyond it feel genuinely different: colder, quieter and quite unlike anywhere else on the planet.

The route takes Sea Dragon into Disko Bay, one of the most remarkable natural environments on earth. Here, icebergs of extraordinary scale calve from the Ilulissat Glacier and drift slowly out to sea. Some are as tall as office blocks, others sculpted by wind and water into shapes that defy description. The destination is the Ilulissat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most productive glaciers in the northern hemisphere. Should ice conditions require it, the fishing community of Aasiaat offers a quieter but equally memorable alternative landfall.

Cross the Arctic Circle – Life on Board in Arctic Waters

Crossing the Arctic Circle aboard Sea Dragon is a hands-on experience where you’ll learn to handle the yacht in icy conditions, reading ice charts and understanding how cold water and changing weather shape decisions at sea. This arctic expedition demands attentiveness and teamwork, and Sea Dragon’s professional skipper and crew will guide you at every stage, whatever your level of experience.

Each day in these latitudes brings something new. The 24-hour daylight of the high Arctic summer means the ice is never far from view, and wildlife encounters are frequent and extraordinary. You’ll also get to:

Sea Dragon is a modern expedition yacht built to MCA Category 0 – the highest offshore classification, cleared for all oceans. She offers hands-on, immersive sailing where every guest is an active crew member. She is equally welcoming to curious beginners and experienced sailors looking for a genuine offshore challenge.

Below deck, Sea Dragon accommodates up to 12 guests in single berths, with a spacious saloon, two heads with showers and a well-equipped galley. Heating and air-conditioning keep things comfortable, whatever the climate. On deck, she carries modern Furuno navigation and satellite communications, a full offshore sail plan including storm sails and an asymmetric spinnaker, and stand-up paddleboards and snorkelling gear for moments when the anchor goes down.

Meals aboard are a shared effort. The galley philosophy is inspired by the places Sea Dragon sails. Think fresh, local and seasonal wherever possible. Most dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice.
