Wildlife in the Hebrides is rich and sightings of sea birds such as Black Guillemots can be seen in their striking plumage. Sailing on Zuza is often rewarded with widespread sightings of birds of prey like Buzzards & Kestrels, with Sparrowhawks and Peregrines needing more patience – and, if you’re lucky, you’ll spot the diminutive Merlin. Scotland is also home to Fulmars, with their highly effective & pungent nest defence, snowstorms of Gannets plunge diving for food on the open sea, and Hooded Crows, strikingly different from their southern cousins. Rum has a massive Manx Shearwater colony that allows incredible views as they raft offshore around the Small Isles or shear the waves in feeding parties, and acrobatic Ravens give everything else in the sky a flying lesson. These sights are overwhelming, and the sound and smell of seabird colonies with their breeding Puffins, Guillemots & Razorbills is like nothing else on earth.

Later in the season, Pufflings & Jumplings entertain as they paddle around the boat or form rafts with their parents after fledging, while Skuas, both Arctic and Bonxies, vigorously protect their young on islands or shadow the boat, parasitising other seabirds of their food.

There are frequent encounters with Common, Bottlenose & Whitebeak dolphins on board these trips, and Risso & Whitesided dolphins are also occasionally sighted. Basking sharks have been scarce the last few years but are still seen and seem to be returning – and we know the hot spots!

There are plenty of whales in this part of the world too. Our most common encounters are with Minke – Humpbacks are a less frequent visitor, while the real star of the show is the resident pod of Orca if you’re lucky enough to see them gliding through the water.

The twin cabins share a bathroom and shower, making them the cheaper choice of berth. If you’re after an en-suite (and a better view), have a look at the double cabins instead.

As with all Zuza’s sailing holidays, your ticket price includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks and Soft Drinks. There are two twin cabins with a shared bathroom and two double cabins with ensuites. All cabins are available for single occupancy at a 50% surcharge. All cabins have bedding and towels provided.

Simply click “Enquire Now” to reserve your berth for five days whilst you sort your travel plans. No booking form or deposit is required until you are ready to book!

Travel insurance notes

As this is an active adventure holiday, we advise that everyone has the appropriate personal accident travel insurance whilst onboard in addition to standard travel insurance which would cover you in the time between making your booking and departing for your adventure. These policies can sometimes be combined so please check with your travel insurance provider.
