Things to do in the Cyclades

Often avoiding the tourist hotspots, such as Santorini and Mykonos, your skipper is likely to entice you to experience a more authentic side of Cycladian island life.

With an incredibly rich history, there are a plethora of ancient ruins and notable historic sites to see. From the Temple of Apollo on Naxos to the ancient city of Karthaia on Kea and the hot springs on Kynthos. There is a wide variety of fascinating sights for everyone to enjoy.

During the summer months, the days can be exceptionally hot, which makes being at sea all the more pleasurable. Each vessel sails with water toys, so after a crossing between the islands, take to the water on a kayak or paddleboard to explore the coast more closely. Snorkels, masks, and flippers are always readily available for those wanting to explore the underwater world.

Wildlife in the Cyclades

Lying much further east than the Ionian islands, the Cyclades are far more arid. Wildlife here is generally hardy, with trips ashore providing chances to spot lizards basking in the sun or marvel at mountain goats idly chomping away in rather precarious positions!

The islands are also a favourite stop off for migrating birds, along with several species of bat who exit the shady coastal caves en masse at dusk.

Beneath the waves, there is plenty to enjoy from playful fish to sea urchins, octopus and squid. The area is home to numerous seagrass beds, which lure marine turtles and even the occasional dolphin.

Sailing Conditions in the Cyclades

This area is fantastic for a taste of open-water sailing, with greater distances between each of the islands. During the summer months, the strong Meltemi wind picks up, making for some exceptional sailing experiences, although newbies may find it a little adventurous.
Closer to shore, there are sheltered bays and often calmer anchorages to be found where you can cool off in the azure Aegean Sea.
