Sail area

St Martin, Caribbean

Begin your Caribbean sailing cruise on the island of St Martin, home to 37 palm-fringed white-sandy beaches, tranquil bays and turquoise coves. Divided into two nations, French and Dutch, St Martin is a fascinating cultural blend of rich African heritage, with 80 different languages and is home to over 100 nationalities. This tiny island is a multicultural delight, with some of the finest and most diverse cuisine in the Caribbean.

The Dutch island of Saba measures only 13km across and is mostly dominated by the dormant Mount Scenery volcano, which provides a beautiful backdrop for anchoring. Most of the island is surrounded by the Marine park, home to magnificent coral formations, dolphins, turtles, and underwater mountains formed by historic lava flows. This little island offers plenty from the water, secluded bays away from the tourist hustle and bustle, and anchorages perfect for testing the boats’ on-board water toys.

The island of Anguilla is just north of St Martin and is a British Overseas Territory. Unlike most Caribbean volcanic islands, Anguilla is largely flat, with coconut palms, sandy beaches, sizzling beach BBQ cafes, and vibrant reefs for spectacular snorkelling. The main towns of the island are lined with luxury boutique hotels, so let our boats show you the quieter side of this beautiful island with remote anchorages away from the tourist hustle and bustle.

The beauty of being on a ship in these breathtaking islands is that we can take you to the unspoilt, authentic Caribbean, away from the busy resorts and beaches. Experience true Caribbean culture, from small fishing villages to lively, colourful carnivals. The crew will aim to give you time to explore the islands as you wish, finding harbours to berth at and secluded bays to anchor in. Feel the sand between your toes, soak up the wonderfully colourful culture, snorkel with the fantastic marine life or simply kick back and relax on the beach. Dive from the boat and swim in the turquoise blue waters.

For the 2027 voyages, we may also visit St Barths. The French-speaking island has long been dubbed the playground of the rich and famous, with pristine beaches, gourmet dining and designer boutiques. Away from the hustle and bustle, however, a tropical paradise awaits, with lush mountains, stretches of soft white-sand beaches, and beautiful flowering gardens filled with hibiscus. Shallow reefs surround this volcanic island, making it great for snorkelling and swimming.

Wildlife in the Caribbean is a real treat.

Spot graceful Green and Loggerhead Sea Turtles gliding effortlessly through the water, and Bottlenose Dolphins swimming with the wake of the bow. Whales also frequent the Caribbean Sea, with the warm water providing the perfect breeding grounds at this time of year for the humpback whale. Birdlife in the Caribbean is an incredibly beautiful sight. Keep your binoculars at the ready to spot these colourful delights.

Things to note
Sailing vs Shoretime
Depending on the wishes of the group and the weather, Kairos will aim to go ashore every 1-2 days. She spends about 50% of the day sailing and 50% on anchor with time to swim and explore ashore.
Do I need to take part in night watches?
No, Kairos doesn't usually sail at night! If she does need to, the crew will take care of it.

Travel insurance notes

As this is an active adventure holiday, we advise that everyone has the appropriate personal accident travel insurance whilst onboard in addition to standard travel insurance which would cover you in the time between making your booking and departing for your adventure. These policies can sometimes be combined so please check with your travel insurance provider.

Please read more information on our Insurance guidelines page.

This voyage will be more than 12miles offshore.

*Please note passengers sailing on Chronos, Rhea or Kariós do not require personal accident cover, only health insurance.

Our sailing holidays on board Kairós are ones of style and comfort while exploring sunshine destinations and unforgettable locations.

Sailing with Kairós is certainly one of comfort and relaxation. Think of a boutique, intimate, classic sailing experience where nothing is too much trouble. Her dedicated and professional crew is highly trained and well-versed in smooth sailing operations.

Getting Involved

She has an impressive sail area, and her rig is electronically operated with retractable sails, so there is no need to “learn the ropes” here! Her crew are always on hand and happy to discuss the sailing operations with guests.

Although there is less focus on the “hands-on” sailing of Kairós, the Captain and crew offer interesting sailing talks and information briefs for guests during the voyage. Learn about the boat’s history and sailing terms, and even take a tour of the engine room if you fancy! Understanding these elegant classic vessels and feeling their power with the wind is truly an unforgettable experience.

Sleeping and Relaxation

Every space on Kairós is considered with the guests at the forefront of all design. From the spacious saloon, private ensuite cabins clad in tropical wood, to the sweeping open decks with plenty of sun lounging spaces.

The generously proportioned cabins all have plenty of luggage storage, full-size domestic showers and air conditioning units. Kairós has six double cabins and one smaller double ensuite (great for younger couples or solo travellers). Kairós cabins are named after the owners’ love of classic boats, of course; each cabin is given a different classic boat name (Eleanora is his favourite!). This matches the allocated swim towel set for guests, so if you leave it drying on deck, a crew member will deliver it back to your cabin when it’s dry.

Daily cabin service is also part of the offering. A crew member will make your bed and freshen your bathroom every day. If you want a towel change or a complete cabin clean, just leave the relevant sign on the cabin door!

Cabins explained…

Deluxe Cabin: This cabin features one large double bed and an ensuite with a walk-in shower.

Small Double Cabin:  This cabin has one small double bed, an ensuite toilet, and a shower wet room. It is suitable for solo travellers or two young guests.

Dining Aboard

Although the day is punctuated by meal times, you certainly don’t feel like you’re running on a schedule. The relaxed nature of both the boat and the crew gives a perfect balance.

Depending on the voyage location, the daily routine can vary and be flexible, according to the group’s wishes. Perhaps sit back and relax as the crew sets sail to another remote anchorage to enjoy a freshly cooked lunch and the onboard water toys! Or spend the morning swimming in a secluded bay or exploring an ancient port city before setting sail to a new location.

Start the day with a continental buffet-style breakfast, then a light 2-course lunch at noon, coffee, tea, and cake in the afternoon, before finishing the day with a freshly cooked dinner. For every voyage on Kairós, guests enjoy a meal ashore at their own expense to really immerse themselves in the local culture and cuisine. Guests tend to go off in their own groups, but sometimes, the crew can join in if guests are unsure of the best spots!

A typical Day

Generally, after breakfast, Kairós will spend a few hours sailing to a new destination where guests can either explore ashore or swim from the boat. Guests can go ashore usually every 1-2 days. On her longer passages and Ocean crossings, she will spend consecutive days at sea.

Water-toys

For those water lovers with a sense of adventure, Kairós has a multitude of water-sport activities and equipment available for guests on her standard voyages (not crossings/passages). Adult-size snorkelling equipment is available for guests to use free of charge.

Water skiing, wakeboarding and tube riding are all chargeable once on board. Kairós offers this at a moderate price and suggests an average of 10% of the voyage price to serve as a guide for consumption. The onboard currency is EUROS, and guests can open an onboard account that can be settled at the end of their voyage.

Kairós

Guest berths: 14 Rig: Bermuda Schooner

This beautiful schooner is the creation of Andreas Steidle-Sailer, a passionate sailor and visionary with a love of classic yachts. He realised that sailing on board beautiful classic yachts was often accessible only to the super-rich and wanted to create an opportunity for anyone to sail in luxury on a modern yacht with classic lines. He teamed up with Klaus Röder in 2007, who based his design on a classic yacht whilst staying true to modern-day schooners, built for performance sailing and guest comfort.

Kairós offers cabin charter berths for up to 14 guests. She has six private en-suite double cabins (all named after iconic classic yachts) with full walk-in shower cubicles, and one small double cabin with a wet-room ensuite. All her cabins have complete air conditioning, teak interior finishes, and full-size double beds. There’s a bar and navigation station in the midships, and below decks, she has a large saloon area with comfortable leather seating and dining.

Built with ultimate comfort in mind, the deck’s outline is teak and mahogany, with plenty of space to sunbathe, read a book and enjoy the views. All the sails are electronically retractable, so there is no need to “learn the ropes” here!  An admiralty ladder provides the perfect place to jump off into the warm Mediterranean waters, swim, and climb back aboard easily. Kairós also offers her guests the option to use her paddle boards, snorkelling and water sports equipment!
