Climb aboard this stunning classic yacht for a weekend discovering the Brixham Heritage Regatta. Sail to this beautiful port from Dartmouth, marvel at traditional vessels and race them.
This two-day cruise is a great way to experience classic sailing on a big yacht that is small enough to really get to grips with.
Setting sail from Escape’s home port of Dartmouth, this beautiful yacht will take you out to open water before setting sail for the Brixham Heritage Regatta. Dartmouth in itself is a beautifully picturesque harbour town, so make sure you allow a little time before joining Escape to wander through the narrow streets and discover what it’s got to offer.
The Brixham Heritage Regatta can be traced back to the 1800s when local trawlers raced annually in Torbay. Things became more official when King George V presented the Perpetual Challenge Cup to the winning vessel in 1914, and racing continued on a yearly basis between classic Brixham trawlers until the war. The war ended the racing, and with sailing trawlers being retired the tradition seemed to have died, until 1997 when a group of enthusiasts revived it.
Escape will take you to see these exhilarating races and you won’t get a better vantage point! Escape is flexible on itinerary but does intend to take part in the race events with a, “it’s the taking part that counts”, attitude! Whether you’re a seasoned solo sailor or a group looking to do something a bit different with your weekend, Escape’s crew will cater for all ages and abilities.
The crew are from the area and have been sailing these waters for years, so have a good knowledge of the coastline. Heading east up the coast, you’ll sail past on of Devon’s many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Berry Head. With porpoises and dolphins often playing in ships’ wake, make sure you’ve got your eyes peeled on the water as well as on the land for the native seabirds – guillemots, kittiwakes, kestrels and gulls.
Andy the Skipper prides himself on the food served aboard Escape, with a delicious selection of meals all included in the price. With croissants, cream teas, cheese boards and fresh bread, you won’t be going hungry after an exhilarating day sailing on this stunning classic yacht.
So with good food, amazing views, wildlife watching and a Traditional Regatta thrown into the mix; this is a weekend not to be missed!
As with all Escape’s sailing holidays, your ticket price includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks and Soft Drinks. There are two single bunks in the saloon and a double bed in the fore cabin. The double bed cabin does have access to the toilet so please note that this is not a private cabin. There is a single toilet and washroom on board but no shower. Escape will stop every day to use onshore showers in yacht clubs. All cabins have bedding and towels provided.

Escape is a 43-foot wooden classic gaff yawl built in 1937 by Kristensen in Norway. She was originally designed by Colin Archer as a sailing lifeboat but was refined to make her slightly smaller and easier to sail by her owners.
Today, her owner and skipper Andy sails his guests around the west country, from Escape’s home port of Dartmouth all the way down the Devon to Cornish coast, over to the Isles of Scilly and even across the channel to France! She’s the perfect vessel for a family holiday or for a group of friends after something a little different – and with great food and drink included in the price, a voyage on Escape won’t be forgotten!
