Spend a spring week sailing with classic boat Maybe as she explores the Devon coast & Channel Islands.

Your adventure sailing holiday aboard Maybe will begin in the sweet fishing town of Brixham on the South Devon coast.

The itinerary and route for sailing are not set in stone due to the ever-changing wind and weather. When boarding, the Skipper will have a better idea of what the week should entail. Whichever route is chosen, you’ll explore the English Channel from the ship, looking out at the dramatic coastline and watching for all manner of marine life that may accompany you along the way.

The harbour towns you visit will vary but potential stops could include Dartmouth or Salcombe – as well as Alderney, the northernmost Channel Isle. With different cultures, histories and atmosphere, this voyage is certain to be one of discovery – of both amazing places and exceptional sailing.

The Channel Islands are teeming with sheltered coves for anchoring, peaceful meandering beaches to discover, medieval towns and remote island to explore. Paired with the delicious local cuisine and plenty of opportunities to set foot ashore, there is no better way to discover the magic of this Celtic Coast than under sail.

During your sailing holiday adventure, be sure to keep the binoculars close; with porpoises and dolphins often playing in ships’ wake, make sure you’ve got your eyes peeled on the water as well as on the land for the native seabirds – guillemots, kittiwakes, kestrels and gulls.

Guest berths: 14 Rig: Gaff Ketch

Built in 1929, classic boat Maybe is a beautifully shaped 28m gaff ketch. A strong sea-worthy vessel, she is built with extra strength using steel frames, a hardwood hull and teak decking.

She has a rather famous history, once being owned by Jan Jacob Van Rietschoten, father of the flying Dutchman, Cornelis ‘Conny’ Van Rietschoten. Having spent most of her life privately owned sailing around the world, she has been owned by her present owners since 1989.

After a complete overhaul in 2007 and a restoration to her original Gaff rig in 2011, she now spends her springs in Scotland, summer days sailing in Tallship races and winters keeping warm in Spain and Portugal.
