Life on Board Zorba

“Happy is the man, I thought, who, before dying, has the good fortune to sail the Aegean sea” Nikos Kazantzakis, Zorba the Greek

From hidden anchorages away from the tourist hustle and bustle to traditionally Greek seaside tavernas – Zorba truly offers guests an unforgettable authentic sailing holiday in Greece. From family friendly charters to voyages for couples and solo travellers alike, Zorba certainly has something for everyone.

Authentic Greece

During all of Zorba’s voyages, the aim is to stay far away from tourist crowds – instead choosing the small harbours or on anchorages next to desert islands. Each day guests stop for swimming in beautiful bays – some of them wild, others with one small taverna, serving for lunch fresh fish and seafood (often taken out of the water before our eyes). There is always the possibility of jogging/yoga in the morning, organic, healthy food on board and a healthy lifestyle close to nature. Friendly local people and lots of tasty food and wine are the common features for all the islands that Zorba visits.

All of Zorba’s voyages offer the perfect balance of relaxation, sightseeing and of course, sailing! Depending on the itinerary, Aga and Greg always recommend and organise excursions to the historical sites or other places worth visiting.

A Typical Day

Wake up, eat breakfast, have some coffee in the village or a little walk to stretch the legs before we sail away.

We tend to sail for a few hours each day before we reach a beautiful bay with a deserted beach. Then we have time for snorkelling, swimming, sunbathing, exploring the island/bay, reading books and so on. Together we prepare some lunch (greek salad seems to be perfect for the hot day!), have some down time – maybe even a little siesta before we sail away.

Spend the afternoon sailing and for those that wish, you can take the chance to learn how to steer, pull a rope, tie a knot or for others it can be a time to relax and sunbathe on deck.

Before the evening comes, we will reach a new island, moor in a lovely small village and explore the new place (they say sunset in Hydra is even better than in Santorini!)

As a rule of thumb, in the evening we go to a traditional Taverna to try some awesome local food as well as the delicious greek wine, dance some Zorba, listen to live music and relax! “No hurry” – that’s our main theme.

The menu

Breakfast and lunch are included in the ticket price and Aga will be your host and main chef although guests tend to get involved with all aspects of life on board Zorba and help with the food preparation and cooking.

Aga will go shopping on the first day and welcomes guests to join her so everyone’s preferences can be taken into consideration. Evening meals are more often than not from a very considered list of Aga & Greg’s favourite Greek taverna’s. Local cuisine, fresh fish and seafood can be purchased at a relatively low local cost of about 15€ per person (including wine).

Aga & Greg have spent many years exploring this part of the world and believe that part of experiencing the true authentic Greece is to fully immerse guests in the opportunity to eat in Greek Tavernas. On the odd occasion, if spending a night on a remote anchorage is top of the list, dinner will be cooked communally aboard.

Breakfast: Fruits with nuts, oats, coconut with fresh greek yoghurt, honey and eggs.

Lunch: typical greek salad with fresh feta; tzatziki with bread; local goats cheese and figs

All the products we use are fresh, local and healthy. Healthy lifestyle and food is important to us so we love to share it with our guests. (Aga’s famous oatmeal may change your view on oats forever!)
