LIFE AT SEA

This voyage in Iceland is perfect for those wanting to experience more of adventures on the water. Think plenty of fresh sea air, on-board comfort, delicious food from the excellent onboard kitchen mixed with genuine, traditional seamanship. After receiving safety instructions as you board and an introduction to sailing with Eye of the Wind from the ship’s crew, you will soon be able to take part in sailing yourself. Eye of the Wind have a fully experienced and professional crew onboard so taking part in the physical aspect of sailing with Eye of the Wind is not mandatory but is certainly a once in a lifetime opportunity!

SETTING THE SAILS

Set course for West Iceland and approach the Snæfellsnes peninsula from the water side, which is often described as a “miniature version of Iceland”. The Snæfellsjökull glacier, located at the western end, is said to have a magical aura. On the north coast of the peninsula, a stopover at the fishing village of Ólafsvík is worthwhile. Soon we see the 436 meter high Kirkjufell mountain on the starboard side. The destination of this trip is the town of Grundarfjörður at the end of the fjord of the same name.

Exactly where you port will be decided by the winds and tide so as you board the crew will have a better idea of what to expect from the week. Eye of the Wind will aim to spend some hours sailing before stopping for guests to explore ashore the Icelandic delights, hot springs and Northern Lights.
