Setting the sails

This will be a week full of surprises and special destinations with the first half of the journey sailing from from Oban and spending the night on the amazing Lochs that we encounter on the way. The second half of the journey will see Steady sailing through the Caledonian canal. Here you will see the Highlands at their very best, exploring Loch Ness along the way. While we sail through the canal you can relax and enjoy the landscape as is passes by as if it was a film.

Day 1- On the 1st day we expect you on board at 2 pm in Oban. Steady is waiting for you in the marina on the North Pier, just 300m from the train station. While enjoying coffee/tea with sandwiches, we get to know each other and the ship. That same afternoon we leave Oban and sail to a beautiful anchorage where we also spend the night. After the joint dinner you will be informed about the upcoming trip.

Day 2- Time to set sails! We leave our anchorage and sail from beautiful Loch Linnhe to Loch a’Choir. The surrounding hills invite you to thoroughly stretch your legs!

Day 3- Today we sail towards the Caledonian Canal, we will get a sight of the Ben Nevis, Great-Britain’s highest mountain. At the end of the day, we will be at Neptune’s staircase, an impressive array of locks that will take us up a whopping 19 meters!

Day 4- A long Sailing day ahead with a lot of Lochs, yet the most beautiful part of the route! We’re on the go the whole day and end in Gairlochy

Day 5- Today we sail across Loch Ness till Fort Augustus. This cosy village with nice pubs is flooded with tourists in summer, all in a search of the monster of Loch Ness.

Day 6- The last leg of the Caledonian Canal ends in Muirtown Marina. This is close to the historic city of Inverness, a beautiful city with a lot of sights to visit. In the evening we will enjoy the captains dinner all together and for those who still have energy after this day, you have to go to Hootananny, the nicest pub in town!

Day 7- Enjoy a delicious extensive breakfast on this last day before everyone goes their own way again .After a diverse trekking we say our goodbyes around 10:00 o’clock.

Steady is true to her name with a sturdy steel hull and was originally built as a charter vessel giving a considered layout below decks. Fitted with all the mod-cons and keeping guests comfort at the forefront, she sleeps eight guests in four comfortable twin cabins sharing two bathrooms with a generous shower. Newly re-fitted for 2022, the galley and saloon area live at the heart of the boat with a peninsula galley and plenty of seating alongside the cosy multi-fuel stove.

On deck level there’s a spacious cockpit with a navigation station and more seating, perfect for breakfast and morning coffee as the sun rises. There’s plenty of room on deck too to take in the surrounding views and learn the ropes alongside Jan-Willem and Mariëlle who love sharing their passion for Scotland and sailing with their guests.

Onboard Steady, most guests like to lend a hand with the sailing of this eye-catching vessel, and Jan-Willem and Mariëlle are excellent guides if you do want to get involved. They cater for all abilities and ages, so if you’d rather sit back and relax with a book, then that’s fine too!

Steady’s voyages explore the islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides and St Kilda; an area of unspoilt wilderness and breathtaking beauty in the Western Isles of Scotland. Her sailing adventures give you access to the most captivating and remote hidden secrets of this incredible and beautiful place. As you sail through this stunning marine landscape you will likely be lucky enough to experience close encounters with rare wildlife and have time to soak up the unique and fascinating history and culture of the Hebrides and St Kilda.
